As you might recall, approximately one year ago I had my Company debut at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in a magnificent production of Poulenc's Les Dialogues des Carmélites which, up to this day, remains one of the most cherished productions I've ever done in my life.
This year, I'm really thrilled to be participating in the Opera Holland Park Christine Collins Young Artist Programme as Masetto in Don Giovanni. It's an incredible opportunity for me and it feels incredibly special to, after 6 years in London, finally have my debut on a main stage in this fantastic city.
It also helps than Don Giovanni is one of my favourite operas and one I've listened to and wanted to do since my very first days as a singing student. My definitive recording is the EMI one conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini which happens to feature one of my reference baritones as Masetto - the incomparable Piero Cappuccilli. While I obviously dream of singing the title role one day (which baritone doesn't?), Masetto is an incredible stepping stone into this opera as it allows whoever sings it to understand the remaining characters from the point of view of a lower hierarchical position and that sort of understanding inevitably changes how you shape the character of Don Giovanni once you eventually move on to that.
The young artist performance will take place on the 22nd of June, at Opera Holland Park, and you can book your tickets here.
I hope to see many friendly faces in the audience!
